Jonathan Alcock & Sons is a long-established and well-respected family-run independent based in Cheadle, Cheshire. Founded by Jonathan Alcock in 1863, the firm is currently under the direction of Jonathan’s great-grandson, Chris Parker, his wife, Barbara and their daughter, Sarah Parker, who represents the 5th generation of the family to drive the business forward.
Alcock & Sons recently took delivery of a brand-new Mercedes-Benz Vito removal vehicle, complete with a ‘Rise&Fall’ deck and VIP appointments from Superior UK Automotive Ltd. Director Sarah Parker and Operations Manager John Wild explain how the latest addition to the Alcock fleet has settled in and reveal some exciting new plans for the business.
John Wild commented, “This is our first purpose-built removal vehicle and our first fleet vehicle from Superior, and I must say we are impressed.’ He added, ‘The build quality and finish of the deck system is superb, perfect for holding all the equipment we use and safer and more secure for our drivers.’
Serving Stockport, parts of Greater Manchester, Tameside, and Cheshire requires a robust vehicle capable of multiple removals in one journey, and Alcock’s new Superior Vito perfectly fits the bill.
Sarah Parker commented, ‘We are delighted with our new Vito. The deck’s functionality makes our work easier and more efficient, and the covert MPV-style exterior looks professional and dignified, which is important when on the first call to a family home.’
Sarah added, ‘The service provided by Superior was excellent. We dealt with Greg Platt, and he was candid with us. He understands that the vehicles are a significant investment, but the truth is these vehicles are built to last even though they work hard. He ensured we got the right vehicle for our business, and we appreciate that.’
In 2019 Jonathan Alcock & Sons reacquired land to the back of their premises and have drawn up some exciting plans to enhance and modernise their facilities. The plans include additional and improved refrigeration facilities, a serene and tasteful memorial garden, and an on-site chapel of rest with full disabled access.
Sarah commented, ‘Our new facilities will accommodate multiple cultures; one example is that we plan to provide an appropriate space for the washing and dressing for females of the Hindu faith, and we always have a female team member available to assist.’
In addition to providing care and support for the families they serve, the firm also supports and contributes annually to local charity, Mentell. Mentell is a UK charity that provides a safe and confidential space for men to talk, aimed at supporting mental health and male suicide prevention.
Sarah commented, ‘Mentell is a charity close to our hearts; we run raffles and events to raise funds and awareness. Sadly, we have helped families over the years who have suffered loss of loved ones to suicide, and we work closely with Mentell Director Jo Mellor, who lost her own son the same way.’
She added, ‘The funeral industry is a difficult industry for obvious reasons and can take its toll on mental health. There is a lack of face-to-face therapy now, and men tend not to talk about mental health and how they are affected, so it is vital to raise awareness of charities like Mentell (mentell.org.uk), where they can reach out for support.’
